The future of the administration building at Veresdale Scrub State School

The Queensland Government is investing in infrastructure to build, maintain, improve and renew education facilities across Queensland.

The future of Block A is one project in a range of renewal works planned for Veresdale Scrub State School as part of the department’s commitment to the ongoing delivery of quality education here.

The school has commenced early works for the construction of a new classroom block. Once complete, the new classrooms will accommodate students who are using our existing modular building. The modular building will subsequently be used as a temporary administration block while work takes place on whatever future option for Block A is decided.

As part of investing in infrastructure, the Department of Education (department) is investigating options for the future of our school's administration building (Block A).

Block A has been identified as being no longer structurally sound and fit-for-purpose. The building, which is not registered as having heritage significance, underwent a recent structural inspection which found it is in poor condition and does not comply with current Building Code of Australia standards.

The department has been advised action needs to be taken to ensure the space remains safe and usable for the school community well into the future.

Two possible options were identified for the future of Block A and were shared with the community to encourage a conversation about the future of an administration building at Veresdale Scrub State School. The details about each option were designed to assist the community to make an informed decision about which option they believe is best for the school. The department also welcomed other suggestions outside the options that the community offered during the consultation period.

The department is committed to continue working with the school community to understand their views, and will consider feedback received during the consultation period before making a final decision.
